Questions & Answers

#1 Can you explain to us what your typical day looks like at AppsFlyer?

My main responsibility is to help our clients be successful in using our product (i.e. seeing value and return on their investment).

Therefore, my day to day activities are mostly around advising clients on how our product can help them to achieve their business goals, solving issues that they’re facing when using our product, conducting training with clients, as well as building  relationships with them.

Other than that, I also help to educate the market about our product via webinars, such as the one we conducted together with RevoU sometimes ago.

That’s quite different from what my day to day looks like in the previous employer as an Online Marketing team member, which mostly revolved around campaign analysis and optimization (Google Ads).

#2 Biggest myths and misconceptions about Google Ads?

Smart bidding always brings the best results.

While most of the time I find smart bidding brings better results, it’s not always the case. There were some particular cases where manual bidding gave better results. So, always test.

#3 Your proudest professional achievement at AppsFlyer?

Conducting introduction class on mobile measurement & AppsFlyer to RevoU students & alumni :)

#4 What drives you to work in your current industry?

Curiosity. I started as an SEO, then moved to Online Marketing, now I’m in Marketing Tech & Analytics space. It’s fascinating to learn new things every day.

#5 Things you wish you could have learned earlier in your career?

Being competent in what you do is important, but being a warm person is equally so.

Google Ads Help Center is the best resource for technical Google Ads information.

Other than that, Occam’s Razor by Avinash Kaushik is a really good blog to learn about digital marketing and analytics.

Make sure you subscribe to it’s The Marketing < > Analytics Intersect Newsletter too!

#7 Your tips for someone who is interested in starting his career in Google Advertising (aside from applying to RevoU :)?

Get an internship at a leading/fast growing startup if you can. Managing a big scale account will expose you to a lot of use cases, problems, best practices, and you can also get good mentorship.

#8 The fundamental skills a Google Ads Specialist is expected to have?

Ability to learn and curiosity. Google Ads might seem complex in the beginning, a lot of details to learn about. Also, there are a lot of changes as technology gets better.

#9 What distinguishes a good Google Advertiser from a great one?

Problem solving and analytical thinking skills. We can only go so far following the best practices on the internet.

When facing complex problems, we will be forced to think independently as ready made solutions on the internet might only solve our problem partially. It’s up to us to come up with complete, and sometimes unique solutions.

#10 Best examples of Google Ads campaigns (outside AppsFlyer) in Indonesia?

A lot of companies employ advanced Google Ads strategy nowadays. The problem is, there’s only so much you can see from the outside. Google Ads it’s not only about writing great ad copies, but also about good structure, operational efficiency, data analysis, and many more.

Perhaps the best way to get inspiration is to pick a company which uses Google Ads heavily (like those in e-commerce & travel industry), then try to reach out to their digital marketing team and have a chat over tea?
